Frequently Asked Questions

What is a second opinion?

A second opinion is generally a patient-initiated consult. It asks a physician who specializes in diagnosing diseases to carefully and thoroughly review all available information in an effort to give the patient their correct diagnosis and recommendations. Doctors in clinics and hospitals are under strict time constraints by hospital administrations, healthcare groups, and insurance companies. This can lead to not having enough time to fully evaluate your concerns, which can ultimately cause medical errors. Diagnostic Investigations provides a second opinion from a physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of your ailment. Our doctors take all the time necessary to give you a complete and thorough evaluation. Because of our thorough approach, you will feel confident in the diagnosis and recommendations. Our doctors will help educate and empower you to become in charge of your own care.

How does the investigative process work?

We speak with you via telephone, email, or video chat to obtain details of your case. Your medical files will be requested to help investigate the case. After thoroughly evaluating all the evidence, we will provide you with a written document (consult report). One of our doctors will be available to speak with you about the consult report, answer all your questions, and provide any needed education.

How much do the services cost?

The initial consultation is free! After the initial consultation, we will quote you a price depending on the complexity of your case. Simple cases start at $500 and can go up depending on complexity. There are no hidden fees or charges. What you are quoted is the price you pay.

What does the consult report provide?

The consult report provides you with a summary of the case or illness, review of the medical record, diagnosis or differential diagnosis, and recommendations. The consult report will be provided to you and can be provided to your doctors at your request.

Do you bill my insurance?

No, we do not bill insurance or participate in Medicare/Medicaid. You may submit a claim to your insurance company if you choose.

Do you work with lawyers and insurance companies?

Yes! Please contact us regarding rates.

Can you order my tests and medications?

Our doctors are here to provide you with answers and recommendations in a "second opinion" capacity. They can order tests and treatments in collaboration with your primary medical doctor.

Will you contact my doctors?

We can contact your doctors with your permission. This can help reveal details needed to make a correct diagnosis or recommendation. Also, we believe this provides an opportunity to work alongside your current doctors to provide the best care possible. Our doctors look forward to being patient advocates.
